' A nice enough read but I was expecting a more enjoyable story. A good mystery and the dialog between Hap and Leonard is very funny. For whatever reason, it's a book I come back to again and again, it's like catching up with an old friend.

I'm not sure if it's just because it was the first one I read, or because the mystery is the most satisfying. ' My favourite of the Hap and Leonard novels. Narration was done by Phil Gigante who did a great low bass voice for Leonard and a nice easy going drawl for Hap which fit the characters perfectly. ' I liked the two main characters and rural East Texas setting but the plot was not my favorite type and I thought there was a bit too much soapboxing. ' Hap & Leonard against child killer! Gritty urban scenery provides welcome relief from the usual middle class narrator, while the always-evil-pedophiliac-murderer provides a villain worth hating ) 'The strong voice of the main character and complicated mystery plot keeps this book ticking along-the pages seem to turn themselves.

Hap and Leonard return in this incredible, mad-dash thriller, loaded with crack addicts, a serial killer, and a body count.
